I would like to thank you all who came in to the workshop at National Museum Cardiff, spread the word and supported this wonderful project. We were so pleased that so many people came to visit the room where the workshop took place and invaluable specimens and the original copies of the beautiful Japanese woodblock publication by a Japanese conchologist in the early 20th century, ‘Kai-Chigusa’, were displayed.
I have little known about marine biology before having been involved in this project. However, this project made me think how profoundly the globalisation in every aspect has affected our planet not only on the ground but also in the sea as well. I also learned about the link between Wales and Japan through the story of the Japanese shell collector and amateur conchologist, Yoichiro Hirase.
His ‘Kai-Chigusa’, inspired me of making folded booklets in the workshop. Every one of the participants, I hope, enjoyed to make its own unique booklet about marine biology.
